4 Byron Station Environmental Protection Plan 1985 Annual Environmental Operating Report Attachment A Section 4.2 Environmental Monitoring Section 4.2.1 Aerial Remote Sensing The aerial remote sensing program was not required for the calendar year of 1985 as per Section 4.2.1.

Section 4.2.2 a) Confirmatory Sound Survey Byron Station's Unit 1 Reactor was declared in commercial operation in Septem-ber of 1985. Due to a maintenance outage in October, November, and December of 1985, the confirmatory sound surveys could not be conducted for the winter portion of the sound survey.

b) Noise-Related Complaints The following is a list of complaints received by Commonwealth Edison concern-ing Byron Station:

May 13, 1985 Complaint of high-pitched noise originating from the River Screen House May 17, 1985 Complaint of hissing noises from the plant June 24, 1985 Two (2) complaints of noise from River Screen House As a result of the May 13th complaint, sound level surveys were conducted on May 24th and June 19th. The results of the survey as well as suggested modi-fications are under review by Sargent and Lundy at this time. The May 17th complaint was a result of testing of the PORV's and is not indicative of normal plant operation.
