Dear Mr. Mobley:
This letter is to confirm our recent telephone conversations regarding a visit by officials from the French nuclear regulatory authority. Autorite de Surete Nucleaire (DSIN). to Oak Ridge Tennessee on September 10, ll, and 12. 1997.
We appreciate your offer to accompany them to three nuclear waste processing facilities licensed by the State of Tennessee, and to the DOE Oak Ridge facility. and to share with them your knowledge of licensing and regulation of nuclear materials.
Messrs. Olivier Brigaud. Deputy Director of the Laboratories and Industrial Plants. and Jacques Rabouhams. Senior Executive, International Relations. will be arriving in Oak Ridge at approximately 6:30 PM on Wednesday. September 10. 1997 and will be staying at the Garden Plaza Motel, where you will also be staying. Ms. Margaret Federline, Deputy Director of NRC's Division of Waste Management. will also accompany the French visitors.
They are to meet you for dinner on Wednesday evening.
You have stated that Debra Schults, and possibly Joelle Key, both of the Tennessee Department of Radiological Health'. will also be in attendance.
The itinerary for the Oak Ridge visit is attached.
The French visitors will also be meeting with NRC staff on September 9, 1997, and U.S. EPA staff on September 10, 1997, to discuss recycling, alternative methods.for waste disposal, and management of very low activity waste.
I have provided the necessary information concerning you and your staff to the three licensees and the DOE for tours of their facilities.
