SUBJECT:
RESPONSE TO C NJD-99-002 - NEVADA PUBLIC MEETING ON SPENT FUEL TRANSPORTATION ISSUES I support the sentiment expressed in COMNJD-99-002 with respect to our making sure we are sensitive to and perform better with respect to issues that may be of interest to the State of Nevada. However, given that we have recently held meetings in Nevada on Yocca Mountain related activities in which we included NRC staff wi+h expertise in transportation issues, as well as making it known that these individuals would be available at the meetings to answer questions on transportation issues, I do not believe we need institute a separate effort focused on transportation issues at this time. I would, however, call on the Commission and the staff to be sensitive in the future to issues that may be of interest to the State of Nevada. We should make extra efforts to insure that there are good communications between the agency and Nevada on NRC activities related to Yucca Mountain, j
