Dear Mr. Felton:

Under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act, 5 U.S.C. 552, I am requesting copies of records pertaining to a September 1967 investigation by the Atomic Energy Commission of worker exposures to enriched uranium during 1966 and 1967 at Atomics International, a division of North American Rockwell Corporation in Canoga Park, California.

I am asking for copies of all records regarding this case, including inspection reports, inter-office memoranda, notes based on oral conversations, Individual worker exposure records, inter-agency communications, legal opinions and letters to and from company officals that were generated in response to the worker exposures.

My request includes all communications between the AEC Division of Compliance and AEC officals stationed at Atomics International. I am also asking for commu-nications between AEC personnel stationed at Atomics International and AEC -

officials who supervised them in the California.

I am aware of a docket in the NRC Documents Room that contains certain letters referring to these exposures. I believe that docket may be incomplete and that recrods used to prepare the letters may be located elsewhere. If there are any fees for searching Yor, or copying, the records I have requested The Times will be happy to pay all reasonable fees up to $100. However, I would like to have a verbal estimate of any additional costs before I can authorize them.

If all or any part of this request is denied, please cite the specific exemptions which you think justify your refusal to release the information and inform me of your agency's administrative appeal procedures available to me under the law.

I would appreciate your handling this request as quickly as possible, and I look forward to hearing from you within 10 working days, as the law stipulates.

Sincere ,

t -
