This Potentially Reportable Significant Deficiency Report is being submitted pursuant to the requirements of 10CFR50.55(e).

It is anticipated that an additional report will be submitted by May 15, 1986.

S ummary During an ongoing inspection of Category I Motor-0perated Valves (MOVs),

wiring )which appears to lack appropriate qualification was discovered in five (5 M0V actuators. This discrepancy relates to the generic problems described in IEN 86-03.

Immediate Action Taken On February 18, 1986, Mr.

J.

Wallauer, Compliance Engineering in Duquesne Light Company's Regulatory Affairs Department, notified Mr. L.

Tripp of the NRC Region I office of this potential reportable deficiency.

3.

Description Of Deficiency Wire manufactured by ITT and by Kalas was provided by Limitorque in five (5) MOV actuators.

4.

Analysis Of Safety Implication Limitorque has been requested to provide the basis for the qualification and use of the ITT and Kalas wires.

It is expected that their report will be received in time to support an additional report by May 15, 1986.

5.

Correct _ive Action To Resolve The Deficiency The subject wires will be replaced with qualified wiring.

6.

Additional Report An additional report is expected by May 15, 1986.
