P:ge 11 FACILITY CllANGES REQUIRING NRC APPROVAL DECEMBER,1985 NONE DURING TIIIS REPORTING PERIOD FACILTY CHANGES THAT DID NOT REQUIRE NRC APPROVAL DC 80-98 A CYCS Ileat Tracing Modification Unit 1 This design change provides a diesel-backed redundant heat tracing system for portions of the Chemical and Volume Control System containing Boric Acid.
Summary of Safety Analysis The modification provides a more reliable and accurate means of monitoring CVCS temperature. The diesel-backed redundant heat tracing will provide a continuous stand-by power source which will automatically provide heating upon loss of primary system.
DC 81-119I NUREG-0696 Short Term I & C Project SPDS CRTs Shift Supervisor Console STA Consoles Installation Unit 2 This design change installed a shift supervisor console and a workstation on each unit for the shift technical advisor to provide improved communications and Emergency Response Capability within the main control room.
Summary of Safety Analysis The modification provides a separate source of plant ' status and information,
. therefore increasing overall plant safety.
DC 83-48 New Laundry Facility Unit 1 & 2 This design change installed a new laundry facility based on the use of wet-washing machines and electric dryers. The new laundry facility is located in a new building
, east of the Unit 2 containment and north of the service building.
Summary of Safety Analysis The modification improves overall operations by providing an efficient and economic means for processing radioactive protection clothing, boots, and respirators.
DC 84-01 Emergency Switchgear Room lialon System Unit 1 & 2 This design change installed a fixed fire suppression system according to Appendix R,Section III G.3.
Two separate IIalon fire suppression were installed; one in the Emergency Switchgear and Relay Rack Rooms for each unit.
Summary of Safety Analysis The installation of the lialon Fire Protection System supplements the existing fire protection measures. It provides a means for reducing the probability of losing safety related equipment due to a fire.
Page 12 FACILITY CIIANGES TilAT DID NOT REQUIRE NRC APPROVAL (continued)
DC 84-24 Addition of Emergency Lighting Unit 1 & 2 This design change installed 8-hour battery powered emergency lights in certain critical task areas to meet the requirements of Appendix R.
Summary of Safety Analysis The modification installed emergency lights essentially identical to existing emergency lights. It improves the ability to operate safe shutdown equipment locally after a fire and allows access / egress to areas of critical tasks.
DC 84-75 Appendix R - CCW and R11R Circuit Isolation Unit 1 & 2 This design change provides a means of isolating control room wiring and provides a means of operating Residual IIcat Removal pumps and Component Cooling Water pumps remote from the control room. A transfer switch and a control switch was installed on each pump's breaker compartment at the switchgear.
Summary of Safety Analysis The modification ensures operation of the CCW and RilR systems are available during a fire in the control room. This will result in continued operations necessary to achieve cold shutdown following a fire.
