Beaver Valley Power Station - Unit No. 2 Docket No. 50-412 EFC0-600 Actuator Latching Mechanisms for MSIVs Supplement To Potential Significant Deficiency Report 85-02
REFERENCE:
2NRC-5-053, dated March 27, 1981 Gentlemen:
In the reference Duquesne Light Company (DLC) submitted its report, in accordance with 10CFR50.55(e) requirements, on the subject of EFCO-600 Actu-ator Latching Mechanisms for MSIVs.
This letter is submitted to provide an update to this original report.
As stated in the referenced report, the old (Torrington) bearings in BV-2's three (3) MSIVs were replaced with new bearings, made by Crosby, in November 1985.
In December 1985 during testing of these new hearings two (2) failed statically.
Subsequently as a result of various tests conducted and a metallurgical report of the new bearings it was determined that these new bear-ings had defects.
Crosby has been directed to develop a new heat treatment process and implement a more rigorous NDE program, which would include proof testing of the finished product.
It is expected that vafacturing the new bearings made of AISI 52100 material under these revinc, ocedures will produce " defect-free" bearings.
In addition to using tv - E.
32100 material, Crosby will investi-gate the use of another bearing M m,= 1r, AISI 9310, in a parallel path.
New bearings should be available froe Cro % within the next several months and shipped to BV-2 for installation.
In addition to the bearing fixes, Crosby will be providing a quotation for pinning the latch bracket to minimize move-ment and provide ease of maintainability.
