SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF MEETING ON V0GTLE ENVIRONMENTAL EQUIPMENT QUALIFICATION AUDIT HELD SEPTEMBER 9-11, 1986 The staff met with the applicant and its representatives on September 9-11, 1986, to audit the environmental equipment qualification program. Enclosure 1 contains a list of participants at the audit. Topics of discussion included:

1) Administrative controls, procedures and reports.
2) Electrical equipment qualification requirements for environmental qualification.

3 Mechanical equipment qualification requirements.

4 Equipment qv611fication data package for equipment documentation.

5 Equipment qualification task force, ob 6 Maintenance and surveillance program. jectives and functions.

An audit of the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant (VEGP) Environmental Quali-fication (EQ) Program was held to determine compliance with 10 CFR 50.49 and

  • the Auxiliary Standards. Enclosure 2 contains a list of components that the staff used to evaluate the applicant against for qualification of electrical

. equipment within the scope of 10 CFR 50.49.

The staff asked the applicant to explain why the containment temperature pro-file curves presently being used for qualifying equipment were not in the FSAR, and to give justification as to why this alternate, unreviewed data would be acceptable. The staff also requested the applicant to provide documentation and input data for determining the containment temperature profile curves presently being used.

The applicant indicated that the following actions would be taken and submitted for staff review: (1) provide the environmental equipment qualification temperature profile curves for containment that GPC is currently 'using to qualify equipment, (2) provide the input data by Bechtel Power Corporation for use with the "Copata Code for calculating containment temperature profiles, and (3) submit an amendment to Chapter 6 of the FSAR to reflect the current GPC position on the qualifying temperature profiles for equipment in containment.
