FIRE PROTECTION - SAFE SHUTDOWN

SUMMARY

The NRC staff conducted a Fire Protection and 10CFR50 Appendix R compliance inspection at Big Rock Point from December 9, 1985 through December 13, 1985.

During the exit meeting on December 13, 1985, the NRC inspectors requested that Consumers Power Company provide a written description, based on the effect of a worst case fire in each fire area or zone,'of safe shutdown equipment which could be rendered inoperable by a fire in that area or zone; and, to describe other safe shutdown equipment, located outside of that area or zone, which would then be operated to attain safe shutdown. The inspectors also requested that copies of those descriptions be submitted to the NRC, and that a copy of those descriptions be available to Big Rock Point personnel.

This letter provides copies to the NRC. Consumers Power Company will add this summary to the revised Fire Hazards Analysis for the Big Rock Point Plant and maintain the revised Fire Hazards Analysis available to Big Rock Point personnel.
