Subject:
LaSalle County Station Units 1 and 2 SOR Differential Pressure Switches NRC Docket Nos. 50-373 and 50-374
Dear Mr. Denton:
This letter addresses commitments made in a telecon with members of your staff on September 8, 1986.. These commitments relate to the disassembly and inspection of SOR differential pressure switches found unacceptable for use at LaSalle County Station (LSCS).
Commonwealth Edison (CECO) stated that SOR differential pressure switches can be classified into one of three categories.
(a) Switches not installed for which testing revealed excessive static shift or repeatibility spread.
i (b) Switches which have been installed but not subjected to operating pressure.
(c) Switches which have been installed and subjected to operating pressure.
Based on the classification of these switches, CBCo will:
(1) Identify switches presently in each category for NRR.
(2) Switches found unacceptable for use at LaSalle will be disassembled and inspected in accordance with a procedure approved by CECO.
This inspection will examine switches for water which has seeped beyond the "O" rings, bearing corrosion or any other phenomena that may identify degradation that could contribute to switch performance.
