, 2301 MARKET STREET f P.O BOX 8699 PHILADELPHI A. PA.19101 (215)841-4000 September 5, 1986 Mr. Edward Corriveau Chief, Permits and Grants ~Section Bureau of Water Quality Management Department of Environmental Resources One Ararate Boulevard Harrisburg, PA 17110 RE: Peach Bottom Generating Station NPDES Permit PA 0009733

Dear Mr. Corriveau:

In accordance with Chapter 92.7 " Reporting of New or Increased Discharges", of the Departments' Rules and Regulations, we hereby request permission to use Nalco 1360 (polymaric zinc, 5% by weight zinc, 15% by weight polyacrylate).

This Nalco product will be evaluated as a means to control corrosion in the Emergency Service Water System (ESWS) at Peach Bottom Generating Station. The flow through the ESWS is approximately 60 gpm noncontact cooling water during normal plant operations. Use of the Nalco 1360 is not expected to violate effluent limitations specified in the subject NPDES permit. ,

We intend to maintain a concentration 60 ppm as product in the ESWS. This results in a concentration of 3 ppm zinc and 9 ppm polyacrylate in the ESWS. Since the ESWS flow is a very small part of the total discharge point 001 flow, there should be very little, i f any, increase in concentrations of zine from discharge point 001.

The existing treatment program which uses polysilica (Nalco 2513) and polyacrylate (Nalco 1370) will be terminated upon approval and implementation of this new treatment program.
