Response to F0IA- g NRC has seven data processing centers located in several buildings in Bethesda, Maryland. lne requested information for each center is as follows:

1. Location of each data processing center.

System 1 - Bethesda, Maryland

2. Approximate tape library size.

1,500 tapes

3. Type of computer hardware.

Data General MV/8000

4. Type of tape management system.

The assignment of tapes for this system is managed by the operations staff of the MV/8000. Each computer site has a certain number of tapes assigned to it. Each site keeps track of its own tapes once they are assigned. Some backup tapes are sent back to the main site to provide off-site archival and backup storage. NRC is currently using a tape management system residing at the NIH timesharing facility. NRC is in the process of developing an in-house tape tracking capability.
