This is to formally advise the Licensing Board and parties in the above-referenced proceeding that the Dairyland Power Cooperative (DPC) recently decided to shut down the La Crosse Boiling Water Reactor (LACBWR) as the first step toward the eventual decommissioning of the plant.

DPC plans to bring the plant down to a cold shutdown mode and submit an application to the NRC to amend its exist-ing provisional operating license for LACBWR to a " possession only" license within the next few weeks.
If this amendment is approved, DPC intends to prepare a decommissioning plan and seek NRC approval to decommission the plant rather than pursue a full term operating license for LACBWR.
While there are no specific hearing-related activities currently scheduled in the FTOL proceeding, DPC believes that, in the interest of administrative efficiency and economy, it would be appropriate to hold the FTOL proceeding in abeyance pending NRC action on DPC's amendment application.
DPC will keep the Licensing Board and all parties to this proceeding apprised of further developments with respect to this matter.
