NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-016/99001(DNMS)

. Dear Mr. Gipson:

During the period June 14-17,1999, the NRC conducted an inspection of activities at your
Enrico Fe;mi Unit 1 facility, with an emphasis on decommissioning activities. The enclosed
report presents the results of the inspection.-
l
Activities in the areas of facility management, decommissioning support, industrial safety, and
radiological safety were examined during the inspection. All activities inspected were found to
be in compliance with the Administrative Controls and Surveillance Procedures Manual.
One concern was identified that related to the repetitive events where 30 minute excursion
levels found during asbestos monitoring in the work areas exceeded the excursion limit
established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. A potential weakness in air
'
borne effluent concentration assessment was also identified which could affect the
determination of both onsite and offsite exposures. These issues are described in detail in the
,
- inspection report.
. In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its
enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
