SUBJECT:

HOLDERS OF PLUT0NIUM BERYLLIUM SOURCES In March 1982, the Department of Energy issued a notice recommending that all holders of plutonium beryllium neutron sources obtained from the U.S.

Atomic Energy Commission inspect the sources (Enclosure 1). Region I has provided AE00 with an interim report on its survey of the plutonium beryllium neutron sources. Region I found a leak rate of about 3% (four leaking sources /125 inspected).

AE0D has cbtained a list of the RISs to which the DOE notice was mailed (Enclosure 2). We have prepared lists, by state, of the organizations that received the 00E letter (Enclosure 3). These lists may be of interest to you in any followup action you may be taking.
