INTEGRATED MATERIALS PERFORMANCE EVALUATION PROGRAM (IMPEP) REVIEW OF MARYLAND RADIATION CONTROL PROGRAM l

! This memorandum transmits to the Management Review Board (MRB) a proposed final report

! (Attachment 1) documenting the IMPEP review of the Maryland Radiation Control Program. The l review of the Maryland program was conducted by an interoffice team during the period  ;

i March 22 26,1999. The team issued a draft report to Maryland on April 26,1999, for factual i l comment. Maryland sent factual comments by letter dated June 3,1999 from Merrylin l

Zaw-Mon, Director, Air and Radiation Management Administration (Attachment to proposed final i report).

Based on the findings, the review team recommends to the MRB that the State be found [

satisfactory for all but two performance indicators. The review team recommends to the MRB j that the State be found satisfactory with recommendationis for improvement for the indicators,

Technical Qaulity of Licensing Actions and Sealed Source and Device Evaluation Program.

Additionally, the team recommends that Maryland's program, as a whole, be considered adequate to protect public health and safety and compatible with NRC's regulatory program. l The MRB meeting to consider the Maryland report is scheduled for Tuesday, June 22,1999 l from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. in One White Filnt North, Room 3-B-4. In accordance with Management Directive 5.6, the meeting is open to the public. The agenda for that meeting is attached (Attachment 2).
