Dear Mr. Muller:

This letter is to inform you of the current status of the Mark I torus attached piping program (Mod 842) and our plans for completion of the associated modifications.

The reference (1) letter transmitted the Safety Evaluation Report (SER)/ Technical Evaluation Report (TER) on PECo's Plant Unique Analysis Report (PUAR). The reference (2) letter reported that all original work scope was complete and that the 'As-Built' Reconciliation program and equipment nozzle evaluation was underway and might lead to additional modifications. The reference (3) letter transmitted the PUAR addendum and described our remaining work and expectation to be complete by the end of the first quarter of 1987. The reference (4) telephone conference resolved staff question regarding both the reference (3) letter and the continuing modification program.

z. 'ib 1 The work of implementing the modifications is progressing but has been-slower than anticipated because the conceptual designs mentioned in the reference (3) letter developed into modifications which were very complex and difficult.to install. Also, availability of resources

.and difficulties in working on equipment with the units operating has limited work progress.. For example, the newly. implemented. required 5-year security clearance check for craftsmen has caused delays in processing the paperwork for getting craft personnel into the plant.

Because of.these conditions, our_ plans for completing the' modifications have been updated and are as follows. Unit 2 is scheduled to come off-line March 14, 1987 for a refueling outage. All work on-the Unit 2 Modifications is expected to be completed by the end of the refueling outage. The work for Unit 3 is expected to be completed by the end of-the 2nd quarter of this year.

Should_you require any further information do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely, J
