Conversion to Low Enriched Uranium, MIT Research Reactor, Docket No. 50-20

Dear Sir:

In accordance with 10 CFR 50.64, Limitations on the Use of Highly Enriched Uranium, the MIT Nuclear Reactor Laboratory submits herewith the information required by subsection (c)(2)(ii) of that paragraph.

We have been notified by the U.S. Department of Energy that Federal funding for conversion to low enriched uranium will not be available during Fiscal Year 1987. A copy of Mr. Richard E. Stephens' letter received January 13, 1987 is enclosed.

It is our understanding that this letter fulfills the require-ments of 10 CFR 50.64 until March 27, 1988. We shall inform you if further information regarding the availability of funding should become available in the meantime.

You will be notified in the event these circumstances change.
