y Dr. J. Nelson Grace SPR 87-001 Attachment March 12, 1987 EVENT DESCRIPTION On February' 10, 1987, Quality Control personnel identified that a seismically unqualified fire damper was installed in the return ventilattun liedder associated with switchgear room 108. A Nuncunformance Notice was initiated documenting the discrepancy and forwarded to Nuclear Engineering for evaluation. Nuclear Engineering recommended disposition was to install a blocking device to prevent closure pending receipt of a qualified replacement. The blocking device will prevent the inadvertent closure of the damper during a seismic event. The fire damper was declared inoperable, and an hourly fire watch patrol initiated. All fire dampers have been inspected and meet the design basis for fire protection.  :

A purchase order will be initiated for procurement of a qualified fire damper and will be installed upon receipt.
