DEFUELING Fuel renoval continued at a rate of approximately a canister per day gi:

using the spade bucket tool. The last of the large sections of broken drill string was removed and placed in a canister. The gj remaining section of broken drill string is not large enough (approximately 12 inches) to present a significant interference with defueling.

Testing of the organic polymer coagulants in conjunction with n

diatonaceous earth filter aid in the Defueling Wate.~ Cleanup System (DWCS) was successfully coupleted. The system is r.ow in full operation and has resulted in significant improvement in DUCS filter performance and improved water clarity. The improvement in m

underwater visibility should greatly enchance defueling operations y

and assessnent of the remaining core conditions.

The NRC staff will discuss the Draft Environnental Iapact Statement on the disposal of accident-generated water.
