Dear Mr. Denton:
As requested by Vogtle SER Supplement 4, Georgia Power Company has removed samples from the base of the diesel engines. The samples were sent to the owner's group for analysis to determine if the class 40 gray iron is free of Widmanstaetten graphite microstructure which increases the potential ~for developing cracks. The results of the analysis indicate that the Vogtle engine base does not exhibit this degenerate Widmanstaetten graphite microstructure.
