Dear Sir:
UNC requests amendment of its license in order to clear the addition of auxiliary bui'Jings at its Montville site addressed in References (1),
(2), (6), (7), and (8). The following information is provided:
The pump house, south of A&B buildings,7was corgtructed in order to comply with Condition 27. Sanitary waste, 'r'adwaste' and selected process waters will be pumpqd to the newly extended Mont dlle sanitary system.
B-Annex (~ 3,000 ftc) is used for processing and storagd of low level radioactive waste which was py;eviously performed ja adjacent areas of B-South. M-Annex (~10,000 ft' is presently a fue'l com'ponent storage building. Other additions were)a replacement air compressor building south of A building, a new office / inspection area Touth of M building

-OC There is no environmental impact from the M-Annex fuel component storage building; air compressor building; M-Building office / inspection; B-Annex area; carpenter shop; and C~ Annex: office area.- The ground areas used for this construction were previously associated with the existing site as either asphalt paved or gravel areas. No added effluents are generated; and there is no change in occupational radiation exposure or radiological accident probabilities.
The sewage pumphouse will generate a combined liquid effluent con-sisting of sanitary waste, contact process water and low level radioactive wastes meeting 10 CFR 20 requirements. The environmental impact of this effluent is currently under joint review by UNC and the State of Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. We anticipate submitting sufficient data to justify a negative environ-mental impact by the NRC.
The buildings are metal sheathed or concrete block constructed in compliance with local and State building codes. Appropriate building permits were obtained from the Town of Montville, CT.
These buildings were viewed by the NRC during the NRC Safety Review of September 29-October 3, 1986.
Ref. (7) provided the locations of the additions on the site plan.
Details of the items involved with fuel components or radioactive wastes are give in:
Figure E 423-1 M-Annex E 423-2 M-South - NDT Area E 423-3 Sanitary Waste Pump Station D 423036 B-Annex Operations or storage performed in these additions are as presently licensed for the facility. The sanitary waste pumping station has been added in compliance with Condition 27 of the license. Connection to the septic field for emergency use has been maintained. Permitting by the State is in the application process. Sampling programs will be specified in the near future in response to ref (9).
Enclosed is a check for $150.00 as the application fee.
Very truly yours,
/4/
