Dear Mr. Dosa:

Enclosed is the report on the radiatiion survey of the UCSB L-77 Training Reactor Facility (License R-124), conducted by Rockwell International and checked by UCSB personnel. The survey was done after dismantling the reactor, with only the packaged empty core vessel and, inner shield assembly remaining in the room. We accept the report and note there is no significant contamination of the facility.

UCSB is still awaiting receipt of a variance to permit burial of the slightly radioactive core vessel-shield assembly. The variance is needed because the shield contains lead, although the lead is encapsulated in stainless steel.

Please advise if we should send additional copies of the Rockwell report.

Sincerely, DOM A. Edward Profio Reactor Director AEP:ajr Encl.
