' i 64 JUL 111986 Mr. Tadd Linsenmayer, Director Office of International Organizations Bureau of International Labor Affairs U.S. Department of Labor Washington, DC 20210

Dear Dr. Linsenmayer:

Thank you for your letter of June 19, 1986, which transmitted the ILO code of Practice for the Radiation Protection of Workers (Ionizing Radiations).

Unfortunately, due to a reduction in staff engaged in radiation protection activities, we will not be able to offer comments on the draft Code of Practice. We note, however, that the provisions of the Code are based upon the recommendations of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) and the Basic Safety Standards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The NRC staff was actively involved in the preparation of the IAEA I

Basic Safety Standards and we support their application and the ICRP recommendations.

Sincerely,
