SUBJECT:
NRC TMI-2 CLENiUP PROJECT DIRECT 0PATE liEEKLY STATUS REPORT FOR DECEMBER 22, 1986 - January 4,1987 1.
DEFUELIhG Licensee efforts at renoving the drilled "hard crust" area continued using existing and nodified tooling. The spade bucket tool is noderately successf ul, achieving a fill rate of approximately one ccnister per two days.
The Defueling h'ater Cleanup Systen (DilCS) was tested with coagulant and body feed injection in operation. The test run was unsuccessful when the filter plugged af ter a throughput of less than 3,000 gallons of reactor coolant systen (RCS) water. This was the same filter that had previously successfully processed 120,000 gallons of water frora the reactor coolant blced tanks (RCBT's) using the same coagulant. Laboratory tests had shown that the coagulant nay not be as effective on RCS water as on the RCBI water. Preparations arc in progress to test another coagulant on the HCS that was successfully tested in the laboratory.
