Dear General Becton:
Thank you for your letter of August 1, 1988, regarding the Plan for Federal Response to a Catastrophic Earthquake and the upcoming meeting of the Catastrophic Disaster Response Group at which various agency responsibilities under the Plan will be discussed.
I would like to express the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC's) full support for this effort and our appreciation for the opportunity to participate in the workshop.
The responsibility for ensuring the NRC's overall preparedness to respond to a catastrophic earthquake, or other catastrophic natural events that may impact our licensed facilities, has been assigned to Mr. Edward L. Jordan, Director, Office for Analysis and Evaluation of Operational Data (AE00).
The day-to-day, direct responsibility has been assigned to Mr. Gary G. Zech, Chief of the Incident Response Branch, AE00.
