O A REVIEW SY Datt 4 b 2.2 T_elt_Procedu re The test samples shall be cornectcd as a syr, ten per Figure 2.1.

With tereinal blocks TB1 and TB2 wired per Figure 2.2 a,d the empty edge connector positions 3 through 16 connected with the alarm connector p.e r Figure 2.3.

Since this test is just for connections directly leading outside of the cabinet and not inter connecting wires, the only connections requiring testing are the following.

1) Digital Isolator Board a) Input signal connections through connectors J1 pins 3 tnrough 19 with a surge ground reference of pin 1 on connector J1 b) Relay outputs through chassis edge connector AJ2 positions 1 through 16 with a surge ground reference of the negative 5 volt DC power connection of the system positions 21, 22, 23, 24, Y, Z, a, B

and b on the edge connectors of tne chassis.

2) Digital Alarm Board a) Master Alarm relay output through chassis edge connector AJ1 positions "16" and "T" with a surge ground reference of the D

negative S VDC power connection of the system positions 21, 22, 23, 24 Y, Z, a, and b on the edge connectors of the chassis.

j g Insert the alarm and isolation boards and energize syston with 5 Ot'.

2.2.1 Digital isolation Board g

Perf orm the following steps to SWC test the is)lation board.

Connect the isolation inputs for the Common Mode Test as shown in Figure 2.4 and test for 2 seconds. After this test energize each input with probes and listen for relay operation and verify input LED operation.

Connect the isolation inputs for the Transverse Test as shown in Figure 2.5 and test for 2 seconds at each input pair, one pair at 9

a time. After this test energize each input with probes and listen for relay operation ana verify input LED operation.

Connect the isolation outputs for comon Mode Test as shown in g

"?.3 Test Results R1 The test samples were subjected to the surge withstand capability test in j

accordance with the requirements and procedures spacified abo w. ke j

D surge withstand capability test data sheets follow this test procNu e.

{

r l

The test samplts complied with the surge withstand capa5ility test i

requirements except as noted below, j

i m

Record of Anonaly No. 3 documents that af ter the connon moda surge, the l

master alarm LED would not go out on CCL Samples 1724-019-000-001, i

1724-019-000-002, and 1724-019-000-004; as required by this test l

procedure.

l l

Failure analysis showed that A16, a 5405 integrated circuit, had f ailed j

on all three boards. One of the outputs from this integrated circuit l

3 passes through the outlet relay. Apparently the como.1 node surge jumped l

over to the integrated circuit output and damaged it.

The alarm output l

function of the board was not lost, only the master alarm LED was l

affected. On sample 1724-019-000-002 the LED for slot number 12 was l

g slightly (very dimly) lit after the_ comon mode test and integrated l

circuit A12 (5433) was replaced. To take care of comon mode surges a GE l

V180ZA10 varistor will be mounted between output connection T and ground I

at the edge connection on the production devices. All production boards l

3 will be tested with the varistor installed.

SUMMARY

Isolation Panel Components, as described in Table 6.3 of tha corporate consulting &

Development Company, Ltd. (CCL) Seismic Test Procedure contained in Appendix IV, installed in a CCL-fabricated test fixture, hereinafter collectively called the I

specimen, were subjected to a Seismic Simulation Test Program u required by the CCL Purchase Order Number 1699 and CCL Seismic Test Procedure 17/4-6, Revision 1, dated April 5, 1984. This test program was performed on March 15, 1984.

^

The test program consisted of single-axis resonance search testing in one test orientation and multifrequency testing in each of two test orientations. The spec;-

men was instrumented with accelerometers, electrically powered, and monitored I

during the test program.

It was demonstrated that the specimen possessed sufficient integrity to withstand, without compromise of structure or electrical functions, the prescribed simtlated seismic environment for the Alvin W. Vogtle Nuclear Plant.
