1 Dear Mr. Murleys In Reference (a), Commonwealth Edison provided mes'bers of your staff with the results of the Spring 1988 Quad Cities Unit 2 IGSCC Inspection.
This i
included information pertaining to the types of flaws found, as well as j
analytical and repair actions taken during the Spring 1988 refueling outage.
j After reviewing the results of the IGSCC inspection, your staff determined j
that the unit could be restarted and a more detailed Safety Evaluation Report (SER) would follow (Reference (b)).
Commonwealth Edison provided your staff with additional information on the results of this inspection in Reference (c) for consideration in the preparations of the detailed SER.
On July 26, 1988, representatives of Commonwealth Edison responded to inquiries of your staff regarding End Cap-to-Hebder Weld Overlay (02A-S10).
Attachment A provides a list of the conference call participants.
In the call, it was noted that samples were removed from the overlay repaired 02A-S10 0\\

urley August 16, 1988 weld which were examined by our System Material Analysis Department (SMAD).
We agreed at that time to provide your staff a copy of the SMAD report upon its finalization. We are now providing a copy of the report by this letter.
We believe it is important to note that of the three boat samples i
removed and examined, no defects were foundr It remains Commonwealth Edison's plan to re-inspect this overlay in future outages.and base any repairs upon the results of these inspections.
