PURDUE UNIVERSITY E

School OF NUCLEAR ENGINEERING EUly !7, !90b Docket No. 50-182 Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555 Attn: Document Control Desk

Subject:

Renewal of Operating License R-87

Dear Sirs:

This letter supersedes letter of June 30 for the application of a license renewal for the Purdue University reactor, PUR-I. Twenty-two copies each of the Safety Analysis Report and Technical Specifications, together with other necessary supporting materials were submitted with the June 30 letter.

There may be some confusion over a second letter included in the package of materials. The second letter was included simply to point out some changes in the technical specifications that we are requesting together with the license renewal, in anticipation of changing the core to low-enriched fuel in the future. Therefore, this request for changes in the technical specifications should be considered as part of the license renewal and not as a separate item.

Correspondence and requests for additional information should be addressed to either Professor F. M. Clikeman or Professor Gordon Born.

Sincerely, 2(/ rdre " _

Wk

f. M. Ulikeman 4;ordon S. Born Professor and Head Radiological Control Officer School of Nuclear Engineering
