Dear Mr. Lovejoy:
Thank you for your April 19,1999 letter to NRC Chairman Jackson, and staff, conceming information on the NRC Web site involving digital system failures. It is our desire that the information on our Web' site be as accurate as possible.
We have begun an inquiry into the concem you raised. While this inq~uiry is being conducted, we have removed the Web pages on digital system failures until the matter concerning the accuracy of the information displayed in these Web pages is resolved. Upon conclusion of the inquiry, we will inform you of our findings.

You requested the count of Web site page " hits" this document has received so that you may know the extent of the distribution of the erroneous information.
Our NRC Web site receives an average of 75,000 hits a day. A hit is equivalent to accessing a single page or graphic. NRC has only recently begun to track the number of hits a particular site receives; therefore, we have not accumulated statistics for page-specific activity.

' As stated above, we have removed the Web pages on digital system failure and have initiated an inquiry into the accuracy of the information in the listing. We expect to complete this investigation by the end of July 1999 and will report our findings and any CO followup sictions to you.

The original purpose of the list of events was an effort by the NRC headquarters staff to keep all NRC staff (such as regional inspectors and residents) involved with digital i
- systems up to date regarding digital system failure information in nuclear power plants.
- As a result of requests from groups outside the NRC, we decided to share the 7%9f
'information with a broader audience and we created a website to accomplish this.
Various sources of information were used, including licensee event reports and
