SUBJECT:
NRC RADIATION PROTECTION AND CHEMISTRY INSPECTION REPORTS
,
50-254/99002(DRS); 50-265/99002(DRS)
. Dear Mr. Kingsley:
On January 29,1999, the NRC completed an inspection of the radiation protection and '
-
chemistry programs at your Quad Cities Nuclear Station. The results of this inspection were
discussed on that date with Mr. Dimmette and other members of your staff. The enclosed
report presents the results of this inspection.
<
i
The inspection was an examination of activities conducted under your license as they relate to
radiation safety, to compliance with the Commission's rules and regulations, and with the
'
conditions of your license. The inspection consisted of a review of the water chemistry control
program, instrument quality control and inter-laboratory comparison program, radiological
environmental monitoring program, and material condition of process radioactive waste
systems. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective examination of
procedures and representative records, observations of activities and equipment material
condition, and interviews with personnel.
,
I
Based on this inspection, no violations of NRC requirements were identified. The water
chemistry, instrument quality control and inter-laboratory comparison programs were well
implemented resulting in effective monitoring and control of plant water chemistry. Radioactive
4
j
waste equipment material condition was improved due to management's increased awareness
/[
of system problems and the potentialimpact on plant operations. The radiological
<
/
environmental monitoring program was effectively implemented, and indicated that there was
I
no discemable environmental effects from plant operations.
