SUBJECT: NRC ROUTINE EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS INSPECTION REPORT

50-341/99004(DRS)

Dear Mr. Gipson:

On May 7,1999, the NRC completed an inspechon at your Fermi 2 reactor facility. The

enclosed report presents the results of that inspection. The inspection examined activities

conducted under your emergency preparedness program. No violations of NRC requirements

were identifed.

Areas examined within your emergency preparedness program are identifed in the report.

l . Within those areas, the inspection consisted of a selective examination of procedures and

representative records, interviews with personnel, and observation of activities in progress.

l The objective of the inspection effort was to determine whether activities authorized by the

, license were conducted safely and in accordance with NRC requirements.

During this inspection our observation of your activities showad the radiological emergency

l- . response preparedness program had been maintained in an effective state of operational

L ' readiness, in particular, emergency response facilities, equipment and supplies were well-

l- maintained. Management support for the program continued to be a strength. Emergency

l response organization personnel were currently qualified for their positions and interviewed

l members demonstrated very good knowledge of their responsibilities and emergency

l procedures.

. In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and the

enclosed report will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
