EARLY EMERGENCY RESPONDERS WORKSHOP The Region III Office of the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is sponsoring an Early Emergency Responders Workshop on February 4-5, 1987, in Chicago, Illinois.
The Early Emergency Responders Workshop, described in Enclosure 1, will bring together representatives of the States, the Department of Energy (DOE), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) with representatives of nuclear power plants and other major licensees in NRC Region III. The purpose of the Workshop is to discuss lessons learned and current problems in the coordination and integration of emergency response efforts. Through the Workshop, we hope to promote a better understanding of our respective roles and coordination between responding organizotions.
I would like to invite Mr. Larry Jensen, Regional Radiological Representative, to serve as a panel member for a presentation and discussion on Federal emergency response activities. The federal agencies represented will include the U.S. Nuclear Reg'.latory Comission Headquarters and Region !!! offices, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Federal Emergency Panagement Agency and Department of Energy.
Each panel member will have five to ten minutes to briefly discuss the tasks faced by their organization, their philosophy of organization, decision process and control, the comunications systems and interfaces that must be supported, and the perceived problems and solutions attempted or achieved.
Following the presentations by all panel members, there will be a question and answer session.
Since panel members will be limited to a short presentation, slides and viewgraphs are not recommended.
The federal panel is tentatively scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on February 4.
The Workshop will be held at the Chicago Marriott O' Hare, 8535 West Higgins Road, Chicago, Illinois.
It is tentatively scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. on February 4 and end at 4:00 p.m. on February 5.
