Areas Inspected:
Followed-up on licensee's reported disposition of licensed material which they possessed prior to the March 31, 1979 expiration date.
Results:
Sixteen of their 23 carbon-14 sources were transferred to authorized I
recipients ; the remaining 7 sources are apparently buried in a landfill area in St. Mary's, Ohio (since about 1972) and therefore it is unlikely that they will ever be recovered by a member of the public.
See attached letters dated April 13, 1979, February 1, 1980, and April 21, 1980.

l Transfer and/or disposal of the licensee's 23 0-14 sources is discussed l
in the enclosed letter dated' 4/13/79 from S. Z. Hansdorf (Goodyear-'
Akron) to John Cooper (NMSS - Regional Licensing Section). Since the l
licensee was unable to verify disposition of the last seven 10 mci i
sources mentioned in this letter (see item 5 at the bottom of page 3),
Region III requested additional information regarding these " lost" sources according to the requirements in 10 CFR 20.402 plus a radiation j
survey in their St. Mary's Plant.

results are presented in the enclosed letters dated 2/1/80 and 4/21/80,

A house cleaning operation at the St. Mary's Plant.is mentioned on i
page 1 in the February 1,1980 letter.
In a telephone conversation on Nhrch 7, 1980, Mr. Holtshouser informed RIII that the house cleaning took place in about 1972.
