Purpose:
To discuss NuPac's submittal of a topical report (TR) for a concrete dry spent fuel storage cask design independent spent fuel storage installation with particular regard to NuPac's pro osed cask drop test program (See Agenda,.
Discussion:
NuPac intends to perform a cask drop test program, in lieu of analysis, in support of some aspects of its structural design. NuPac has already submitted its Quality Assurance Program (QAP) for review as part of its TR, It will submit later this week a discussion of scale model testing (for the cask drop test program) as an appendix to the TR for NRC staff review.
Following that submittal NuPac expects to submit its proposed test program with or slightly before submittal of its TR to allow the NRC staff to review the TR in conjunction with the drop test program to assure that its expected results would be sufficient to allow the staff to complete its safety review (assuming successful completion of the test program). Submittal of the TR is scheduled for March or April 1987.
