20555 Attention: Mr. H. N. Berkow, Director Standardization and Special Projects Directorate Docket No. 50-267

SUBJECT:

Fort St. Vrain Building Construction and Modifications

Dear Mr. Berkow:

The purpose of this letter is to provide the NRC a list and schedule of proposed building construction at Fort St. Vrain.

The following buildings and structural modifications are in the design phase and are scheduled for construction as follows:

1) Maintenance Facility (Building 35)

==

Description:==

This facility will consolidate the maintenance, welding and machine shop activities into a common building.

It will provide an area for the maintenance and repair of a helium circulator.

In addition, the building will provide office space and needed space to support maintenance activities.

This building was previously discussed with the NRC and it was agreed that an information set of building drawings would be sent to the NRC later this year.

Size and Type: 150 ft. x 157 ft. x 45 ft. high, Seismic Category II Location:

Inside the protected area approximately 115 ft. east of turbine / reactor building Tentative Schedule:

2) Training Facility (Building 114)

==

Description:==

This building which is being proposed for budgeting considerations will be used to provide the needed class room and laboratory space for the various FSV Training programs. A portion of the Training Facility will be available for use as the Personnel Control Center (PCC).

Due to it's

location, future NRC participation in the construction of this project is not expected.

Size and Type: 270 ft. x 220 ft. x 25 ft. high Seismic Category II Location: Outside of the protected area, approximately 600 ft.

southwest of the main plant Tentative Schedule: Start construction June 1987

3) Maintenance Storage Building (Building 34)

==

Description:==

This building will be used for storage of large items such as heavy load lifting devices currently being stored on the turbine deck. Because of the building's function and location, future NRC participation in the construction of this project is not expected.

Size and Type: 80 ft. x 80 ft. x 30 ft. high Seismic Category II Location:

Inside the protected area approximately 450 ft.

east of the turbine building Tentative Schedule: Start construction October 1986

4) Bulk Chemical Storage Building (Building 33)

==

Description:==

The purpose of this building is to consolidate the storage location of chemicals used at Fort St. Vrain.

The building which is being proposed for budgeting considerations will contain separate storage areas for flammables, corrosives, oxidizers, and non-hazardous type materials.

Because of the building's location, no future NRC involvement is expected.

Size and Type: 40 ft. x 125 ft. x 21 ft. high Seismic Category II Location:

Inside the protected area approximately 450 ft.

5) Security Diesel Generator Building (Building 36)

==

Description:==

This building will contain a diesel generator and also contain snow removal equipment.

The normal NRC involvement for FSV modification work would be expected on the construction of this building.

Size and Type: 30 ft. x 14 ft. x 12 ft. high Seismic Category II Location:

Inside the protected area approximately 50 ft.

west of the reactor building Tentative Schedule: Start construction November 1986

6) Records Storage Center (Building 115)

==

Description:==

This building will be used to store nuclear records and has been previously evaluated by the NRC. Therefore, no future NRC participation on the construction of this facility is expected.

Size and Type: 34 ft. x 68 ft. x 13 ft. high Seismic Category II Location: Outside the protected area approximately 150 ft, southwest of turbine building Tentative Schedule: Start construction November 1986

7) Shift Supervisor's Office Addition to Main Control Room

==

Description:==

This modification will add an office addition on to the south wall of the control room to allow for the shift supervisor to have direct access into the control room. The normal NRC involvement for FSV modification work would be expected for the construction of this addition.
