Subject:
Braidwood Station Units 1 & 2 Technical Specifications-Seismic Instrumentation NRC Docket Nos. 50-456 and 50-457
Reference:
September 15, 1986 A.D. Miosi letter to H.R. Denton
Dear Mr. Denton:
The purpose of this letter is to provide you with the location of the sixth seismic monitor as commited to in the referenced letter.
The location was discussed with Mr. Dave Jeng of your staff and was found to be acceptable.
Attached is Technical Specification page 3/4 3-45 which lists the sensor location.
The sixth seismic sensor is to be located at elevation 338' in the auxiliary building on column row 18 wall adjacent to the column L wall.
Considcration for choosing this location was primarily the idea of providing redundant information as the containment foundation sensor provides.
Since the auxiliary building foundation and the containment foundation both are founded on rock, the seismic instruments at these 2 locations will measure the same rock motion.
Therefore, the auxiliary building instrument will provide redundant information as the containment foundation.
Should you have any questions on this matter please contact this office.
One signed original of this letter and enclosure are provided for your review.
Very truly yours, A.
