Monthly Report for Byron Unit 1 A.

Susunary of Operating Experience for Unit 1 The Unit was at power for the entire reporting period.

A Hot Leg Temperature Reduction Program was approved for implementation on August 5 to help prevent stress corrosion cracking of the Steam Generator U-Tubes. Instrument setpoint changes were accomplished on August 11, and power increased to 94%. This power-level was attained on August 13.

The safety analysis for this program was completed for 94% power, therefore, the unit is dorated 6% power based on this analysis and not on actual plant operating parameters. This dorating will continue through the end of the 4

Unit 1 fuel cycle upon where it will be administratively evaluated as to its continuance.

The discretionary load reduction to 70% reactor power inititated on May 17th to minimize the rate of Steam Generator Tube Corrosion and to prevent a back to back outage schedule is ro longer in effect.

The Hot Leg Temperature Reduction program is now being used to help prevent stress corrosion cracking and the outage which occurred in July is delaying refueling aid thereby preventing a back to back outage schedule with Unit 1.

These figures will be used to plot a graph for each reporting month. Note that when maximum dependable capacity is used for the not electrical rating of the unit there may be occasiors when tho daily average power level exceeds the 100% line (or the restricted power level line. ) In such cases the average daily unit power output sheet should be footnoted to explain the apparent anomaly.
