SUBJECT:

Beaver Valley Power Station - Unit No. 2 D :ket No. 50-412 Response to Open Issue' 9 (7)

Gentlemen:

The staff has questioned the reason fo r deletion of test abstract 14.2.12.9.4, "Demonstraton of Design Capability of the Chemic al and Volume Control System",

from the FSAR.

This abstract was deleted to eliminate duplication of other tests.

The various aspects of the deleted test description are addressed as follows:

1.

The ability to adjust boric acid concentration in the makeup system is tested as de sc ribed in FSAR 14.2.12.9.2, " Boric Acid Trans fe r System Test".

2.

Capabilities with regard to plant chemistry will be demonstrated through use of the normal plant chemistry program.

3.

Integrated control operations during steady state and transient conditions are verified as de sc ribed in FSAR 14.2.12.9.3, " Chemical and Volume Control System Test", 14. 2.12. 6. 6, " Load Swing Te s t", and 14.2.12.6.7, "Large Load Reduction Test for Turbine Runback".
