In your letter that I received on June 16, 1986, you requested a public hearing in Eureka, California on the Decomissioning of the Humboldt_ Bay _ Nuclear Power Plant, Unit No. 3 As you may know, we have issued the Draf t Environmental Statement (DES) on the decommissioning of the Humboldt Bay Plant (Enclosure 1). We will, however, not be scheduling a F'aring or public meeting for the public to comment on the DES concerning the decomissioning of the Humboldt Bay Plant.
On December 4, 1984, we did have a public scoping meeting in Eureka to help establish the scope of the DES. Public comments given at that meeting were considered in our preparation of the DES. Any coments you may have on the DES should be sent to the NRC by August 15, 1986, as stated in the enclosed notice of " Extension of Comment Period" (Enclosure 2).
You may also request a hearing on the proposed Decommissioning Plan by following the guidance given in the enclosed Notice of Opportunity for Hearing (Enclosure 3). My phone number, as given in the DES, is 301-492-8194.
