STAFF REQUIREMENTS - BRIEFING ON STATUS OF THE MAINTENANCE RULE,2:30 P.M., WEDNESDAY, MAY 5,1999, COMMISSIONERS' CONFERENCE ROOM, ONE WHITE FLINT NORTH, ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND (OPEN TO PUBLIC ATTENDANCE)
The Commission was briefed by the NRC staff and the Nuclear Energy Institute on the status of -
the maintenance rule. The Commission directs the staff to continue with its plans to expeditiously revise the rule, consistent with the discussion at the briefing regarding the modified (a)(4) provision (limited scope - slide 8).

In developing the draft Regulatory Guide, the staff should seek review by the Committee for Review of Generic Requirements (CRGR) and the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safaguards (ACRS). The Draft Regulatory Guide should be provided to the Commission for information (EDO) -

The staff should work in a collaborative fashion with stakeholders in finalizing the Regulatory Guide through the use of public meetings and workshops, as appropriate. The final Regulatory Guide should be provided to the Commission for approval.
