Dear Hr. Star.derfer:

Subject:

Annual Update to the Submerged Demineralizer System Technical Evaluation Report and System Description i

References:

(a) Letter 4410-85-L-0157, F. Standerfer to W. Travers.

Technical Evaluation Report for the Submerged Demineralizer System, dated August 16, 1985 (b) Letter 4410-85-L-0158, F. Standerfer to W. Travers, s'

System Description for the Submerged Demincralizer System, dated August 16, 1985 References (a) and (b) forwarded, for NRC revia, the annual update to the System Description (SD) and Technical Evaluation Reports for the Submerged Demineralizer System. The major changes resulted from the modifications to the SDS system necessitated by the tie-in of the defueling water cicanup system (DWCS). These intersystem connections were evaluated in the NRC staff safety evaluation performed in support of staff approval of the DWCS TER.

Other changes resulted from modifications to the internals indexing fixture processing systen, and the fuel transfer canal fill and drain system. These nodifications which are minor in nature have been evaluated by the NRC staff during review of the applicabic system operating procedures.

We have completed our review of your submittals and have determined that the changes do not constitute an unreviewed safety question and do not alter the i

conclusions stated in the original staff safety evaluation report.

We therefore approve the annual updates to the Submerged Dcmineralizer System Technical Evaluation Report and System Description.

Sincerely ORIGINAL. 510NED BY G608210260 860014 William D. Travers PDR ADOCK 05000320 P
