Iamresponding toyour July 3,2020,letter requesting that theNRCextend thepublic commentperiods onthedraft Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) for two applications for consolidated interim storage facilities until atleast 6monthsafter theCOVID-19 public healthemergency concludes.
The draft EISsareforapplications fromHoltec International, proposing afacility inLeaCounty, NewMexico, andInterim Storage
- Partners, proposinga facility inAndrewsCounty, Texas.
Given thecontinuing COVID-19 public health emergency aswell asrequests from multiple stakeholders, theNRCstaff hasdecided toextend each public comment period.
The public will haveuntil September 22,2020,tosubmit comments on the draft EISfortheproposed facility inNewMexico anduntil November 3,2020tocommentonthe proposed facility inTexas.
Eachextended commentperiod provides thepublic withatotal of180days toconsider thedraft EISandsubmit anyinput.
Notices ofthese extensions werepublishedinthe Federal Register.
