DeRECT DIAL No God 788 John H. Frye, III, Chairman Dr. Oscar H. Paris Mr. Frederick J. Shon Atomic Safety and Licensing Board U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Comm1monn East-West Tower 4350 East-West Highway Bethesda, MD 20814 Docket 50-322-OL-5:

Schedule for Remainder of Hearings Gentlemen:

Attached is a summary of the schedule, adopted yesterday mornmg by the Board in a bench ruhng (Tr.

). which would follow from the Board's implementing the guideline set by it of 4 pages per hour of cross-examination time for direct testunony on remammg

. issues.

(Tr. 2825-54, partienimly 2841-45).

It is the same as the schedule outlined Monday by LILCO, with the refinement that Contentions 15-16 have been separated from Contention 21.

It is somewhat more generous than the guideline for Intervenors' ques-

- i tioning.and less for LILC O's.

Some minor adjustments may be useful:

for 2nstance, the hearing week begmnmg May 11 could be extended to Friday, May 15 (assuming courtroom availability) or its hearing days could be lengthened, in order to permit Incervenors' wit-nesses to complete their testimony that week.

Suffolk County has indicated that it intends to seek extensions of the guideline lim-its on each of the remammg issues.

LILCO requests that the Board set deadlines for re-ceipt of any such filmgs so as to permit them to be resolved in advance, and suggests the following deadline dates:

Contentions 38, 29 - April 13 (responses due April 17); Conten-tion 50 -- April 20 (responses due April 24); Contentions 15/16 - April 27 (responses due May 1); Contention 21-May 4 (responses due May 8).
