SUBJECT:
DISTRIBUTION OF TRITIATED WATCHES WITHOUT A LICENSE This refers to the telephone discussion between yourself and Dr. John Glenn and others of my staff, and Mr. John Hickey and others of the NRC Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards, on June 12, 1986, concerning your distribution of watches containing tritiated oaint without an NRC license to do so.
With regard to this matter, we understand that you will take the following actions:
1.
Immediately stop all distribution of watches containing tritium until such time as a distribution license is issued.
2.
Furnish this office with the following information:

a.
A list of the model numbers of all watches distributed by you which contain tritium, b.
The quantity of tritium in each of the above model watches.
c.
The numbers of watches of each model that have been distributed to date.
3.
Provide us with a sample watch containing tritium.
The watch will be returned to you after examination.
If our understandings concerning you commitments in this matter, as outlined above, are not correct, you are required pursuant to Section 181 of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954 to notify this office within 24 hours2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br /> of receipt of this letter to enable the NRC to determine whether on not further action is neces-sary.
