. Ref.: - 1.

Let.ter,'J. H. Nordahl (SPC) to Director, Office of Enforcement (NRC), "Siemens f

' Power. Corporation-Nuclear.Divis' ion Responses to the Demand for Information,

' Notice of Nonconformance, and Unresolved items (Inspection. Report 199900081/97-01)," February 24,1998.

Ref.: K. Letter, J.. H. Nordahl (SPC) to.Mr. Samuel J. Collins (NRC), " Additional Inforrnation 2

- for;SPC Responses to Non-Coriformances 97-01-02 and 97-01-04," NRC:99:005, February 4,1999.:

i This. letter provides the status of the commitments made by Siemens Power Corporation (SPC) related to our computer code documentation upgrade program. The two commitments of '

interest are 24 and 25, which are listed in Reference 1 and are further discussed in Reference

2. These commitments involve the c'onduct of. validation and verification and the' development

~,of user, theory, and programmer's ' manuals for numerous computer codes.' I had previously provided similar statu's reportRto the NRC in August and November 1998.

x Since my'last report of November.1998,'SPC'has completed 11 additional tasks: five user's

manuals, four the'ory manuals, a programmer's' manual, and one V&V activity. In addition, it was determined that existing documentation adequately fulfilled compliance requirements for

~

.15 tasks.L A' number of computer codes that have been relied on' by SPC in the past are being replaced by codes that already meet the requirements for V&V and for supporting manuals.

~

LThis replacementfeffort will eliminate the need for 17 tasks.

The remaining work' to be a'ccomplished 'ncludes
(1f V&V on 12 codes and the preparation of i

- five user's manuela (all scheduled for completion by;the end of 2001) and (2) the development i f 26 theory and programmes's manuals,'which will be available by the end of 2002.

o

' Because'the~ current effort involves work on several lengthy tasks, the completion rate will be

~

lrelatively low for the next several months. I plan to provide the next status report in six -

4 months; that'is,.in October 1999.-
