Dear 51r. AlacDonald:
On January 15, 1988 the University submitted a Quality Assurance (QA)
"rogram and requested authorization for use of radioactive materials shipping package 2,lodel 11511-1 for shipment of TRIGA Alark 111 reactor fuel to DOE (INEL).
Your letter of hlarch 10, 1988 forwarded the Quality Assurance l'rogram Approval, docket 71 0649 which carried an Expiration Date of February 28, 1989.
We are proceeding with the final preparations to carry forth this defueling and shipment. We have received NRC approval of the transportation plan and safeguards and have been advised by DOE of their intent to receive the fuel.
Ilowever, the schedule for this work is still fluid and the completion date could slip beyond the February 28,1989 date.
The purpose of this letter is to request a six (6) month extension of the expiration date.
