Your letter of May 21, 1986, concerned the status 'and schedule for our review of the Combustion Engineering Topical Report for~a dry spent fuel storage cask design. You requested approval by July 30, 1986.jy; As you are aware, the Topical Report is under active review. Our review is likely to result in some questions and comments re' quiring your response.
Under our present schedule, we expect to provide:you with these questions and comments by the end of. July. Thus, it does not appear that you should plan for approval of the Topical, Report by July 30.
As we informed your staff at the time of your sutimittal, licensing activities take priority over our reviews of topical reports.
Licensing activities over the past several months,m ombined with ongoing reviews of three other topical reports on dry spent fuel storage cask designs that were submitted prior to yours, have impacted the review of your report.
Please be assured, however, that we will do our best.to improve upon our review schedule if at all possible.
If you have any further~qisestions' on this matter, please let me know.
