SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT, APPLICATION DATED OCTOBER 10, 1988, RE EXTENSION OF LICENSE

Background

On October 10, 1988, CE submitted en amendment application requesting a 1-year extension of Materials License No. SNM.33. The current license expires on December 31, 1988. ,

Discussion By letter dated September 30, 1988 CE notified the NRC of a plan to expand and revitalize the Hematite facility. The extension is requested to permit CE time to complete revitalization activities, and upon completion of these L activities, setait a renewal application which describes the revitalized .

facility and authorizes the expanded operations. To acccm odate this amendment request, Condition 4 is revised as follows: ,

The staff believes that the extension of the license will have ne adverse effect on the public health and safety or on the environment. Approval of the amendirent application is recomended.
