Response to Request for Information
Dear Sir:
The purpose of this letter is to respond to your recent request for information regarding the analysis of a one-pump seizure event for
-l Vermont Yankee under single loop operation.
The recirculation pump seizure event was analyzed by General Electric for the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station. The analysis assumes that the reactor is operating initially under single loop operation at 73.3% power and 3
at thermally limiting conditions.
t The Minimum Critical Power Ratio (MCPR) calculated for this event was more than 0.14 above the fuel cladding integrity safety limit. Thus, there is no threat posed to fuel thermal limits and no fuel failures are calculated.
i The consequences of this event also do not result in any temperature or pressure transient in excess of the criteria for which the reactor vessel or containment are designed.
These results support our conclusion that the fuel thermal limits established for two-loop operation are also applicable to single loop operation, and that the pressure barrier integrity is maintained under single loop operation.
